A healthy lifestyle was the last thing on my mind just one year ago.
Funny how life goals change. Now, I am living proof of the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle can do!
I was at my heaviest in this picture, 310 lbs. I constantly had swollen knees, was taking 7 blood pressure medications, losing my breath walking up one flight of stairs…I could go on and on!
I made a commitment in mid-January to begin living a healthy lifestyle, and to help others who have their own struggles make that transition.
I refused to try any “lose weight quick” fad diets. Nor was I going to try jumping right into eating salads or controlling my portions. That wasn’t a realistic scenario for me. I loved to eat!
So, what I did was change WHAT I ate. Instead of gorging on fried pork chops and snacks, I gorged salmon and veggies. Or, a huge homemade turkey burger. My appetite began to shrink right along with my stomach, because I was taking in less calories. I began to walk more, exercise, and go to the gym.
I no longer have problems with sore knees or jogging/running. Although I can’t do a very long distance, due to the fact that I still smoke cigarettes. That is another work in progress.
2 months ago, I cut out meat all together. The only meat I was eating anyways was turkey, so I went to an all-natural Vegetarian lifestyle. I have a standing rule when I go to the grocery store. NO processed foods, well, as much as I can avoid! If it’s in between Produce and the Frozen Vegetable aisle (with the exception of Oatmeal, honey, and peanut butter), I don’t fool with it!
However, I still prefer fresh produce from local farmer’s markets and veggie stands.
I’m not posting this to brag, I honestly just want to share my story. I feel so much better physically and mentally! But, I’m still not where I want to be, to be honest.
A lot of people struggle with transitioning to a healthier lifestyle. Hopefully, my method will help someone else; but, if not, all I am saying is, don’t give up. I know how it is to have people tell you that you can’t accomplish your goal by doing things a certain way.
A person’s skepticism can make you question yourself, and make you feel even worse. Tune them all out and focus on yourself! Do what works for you and push hard until you surpass your goals.
Unfortunately, even with the weight loss, my head is still the same size!
