Was Luke the right choice to become the chosen one?
This used to be a no-brainer, because previous to new canon, we all (at least I did) thought of Leia as a feisty-ass Princess. Luke was the classic hero story. Poor boy from desolate planet destroys superweapon twice and saves the galaxy, yada, yada.
But, now we find out this whole scenario could have played out differently. According to “There is Another”, a short story in Star Wars from a Certain Point of View , which is canonical, Yoda didn’t want to train Luke. The Jedi Master saw Luke as reckless and angry, which of course, as you know, are both paths to the Darkside. He wanted to train Leia, who he thought was more fit to take on the Sith.

I may be more biased toward the Darkside of the Force, but now I can see why Palpatine was able to steal the galaxy right from under the Jedi’s noses.
Maybe they had a lil sumpin sumpin else under their noses too…
The Sith ended with Palpatine’s death and Vader’s redemption. I could almost guarantee you that if Leia would have been trained in the ways of the Force, the Sith would not have died that day because Leia would have given in to the Darkside.
Think about it. Let’s say Leia was trained in the ways of the Force and ended up in the same scenario as Luke did on the 2nd Death Star. How do you think that would have played out?
Palpatine: “Do it, strike down your father like he did all of those innocent people on Alderaan! Like he did with so many of your pitiful Rebel Alliance! Like he did with your own Mother! I wasn’t the one who gave the order to destroy Alderaan young Jedi, your FATHER did. All of the fleets in your selfish little Rebel Alliance did NOTHING to avenge Alderaan, they only sought to destroy this glorious Galactic Empire. Lord Vader murdered your true father, Senator Organa, and then murdered the rest of the Senate. Join me by my side and we will avenge the deaths of your parents and get true revenge for the selfishness of the Rebel Alliance. We will make all everyone pay who stood by idle while Alderaan was destroyed. We will rule this galaxy and restore order and your true destiny as a Princess. Do it Leia! Do it for Alderaan…do it for Padme!”
Leia would have killed Vader in that moment, probably before Palpatine finished his statement.
Hell, I would have too!
Then I could see Leia, in a last burst of rebellion, turn her lightsaber on Palpatine…only to meet Force Lightning. In that moment, she would have two choices. She killed Vader, so there is no one to save her by throwing Palpatine down the reactor shaft. Now she realizes how powerful Palpatine really was. Either she would kneel and call The Emperor master, or she would have died. There was no way Palpatine would let another Skywalker live unless he could control them as an apprentice.
Enter Darth Vitri, or as she is known by what’s left of the Rebel Alliance…
There would be no Battle of Jakku because the Empire never fled. There would be no First Order because the Emperor’s contingency plan to destroy the Empire wouldn’t be necessary. Therefore Gallius Rax would have never tried to destroy Jakku and the New Republic (which also would never come to fruition) and the battle between he and Rae Sloane would have never happened. Therefore, no rendezvous with the Eclipse in the Unknown Regions. Speaking of the Unknown Regions, Palpatine had probes mapping a safe passage through the Unknown Regions for decades. How long would it be before the Empire conquered the galaxy and beyond? No Kylo Ren. No A New Hope part II aka The Force Awakens.
Only The Emperor and his Sith apprentice Darth Leia.
What do you think would have happened? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
