You can find cosplay is everywhere. Today, I got the chance to go to Siberia (brrr!) to interview two very nice & talented cosplayers named Gackt Bt and Mana Hime. Collectively, they are known as J&T Cosplay. They were nice enough to open up to me and tell their history, and give us an idea of what it’s like to be a cosplayer in Siberia! This is why I LOVE my job!
I get to travel all across the world without leaving Chicagoland!
J&T Cosplay Interview
Ambush Vin: Good Morning ladies! How did you guys meet?
J&T: We kind of randomly met in friend’s company and we pretty much have been inseparable ever since. Our common love for J-Rock brought us together. A little bit later we created J&T.
It’s really interesting to see the effect that cosplay has on everyone’s life. How has it affected your lives?
J&T: We meet many creative people, which makes life more colorful and brighter. We are proud to be cosplayers. Now we can create a fairy tale in life for people and themselves.
Do you guys have a favorite fandom?
Gackt_Bt: I have madly many favorite fandoms. But I can highlight Marvel, Star Trek and Sherlock.
Mana_hime: I’m a crazy fan: Sherlock and Harry Potter.
I got really excited when I saw that you guys were from Siberia! I would have never thought that cosplay would be as popular in the northern regions of Russia. What is it like living as a cosplayer in Siberia?
J&T: We think cosplay is so popular that it can be found in any part of the Earth. To begin with, living in Siberia is cold and snowy, but there are many events.
What made you guys become interested in cosplay?
J&T: We did not receive a letter from Hogwarts, therefore we had to do cosplay. Seriously, we wanted to make our dreams come true and our idols…to be like to them.
What was your first public cosplay? Were you nervous?
J&T: Our first cosplay was in (J-Rock) the Japan group Malice Mizer. We were not nervous, we were teenagers and then it was just fun. It took a lot of time, priorities changed and the attitude became more serious. We still have the thought to make those first costumes again.
What is your dream cosplay? The one that you dream of creating one day?
J&T: In general, We do not have one, because if you can wish, you can realize everything. But, we do have one crazy idea of making a Sherlock cosplay. However, it is still in our dreams, as it is not enough time for everything…yet.
What is the main goal that you hope to achieve as a cosplayer?
J&T: Unfortunately, in Russia cosplay is not as popular as abroad. Therefore, the main task is to attract a large audience of people to this area. We organized an exhibition of costumes in the city museum, which was visited by many people. We received good reviews among the adult and teenage audience.
Is there anything that you would like fans and potential fans to know about you?
Gackt_Bt: We have become one family and cannot live without each other.
Mana_hime: We have a baby Chihuahua in our family and we named him in honor of Jim Moriarty (Sherlock BBC).
Do you have a favorite cosplayer? Someone that you would love to meet someday?
J&T: We do not want to single out cosplayers, they are all beautiful and we love them. But, we would like to meet The Hillywood Show.
What is your advice to beginning cosplayers who are still trying to find their way?
J&T: Do not be afraid of anything, go to your goal. The main desire is to make your cosplay so, if something does not work out the first time, get ready to do it again until it turns out good. It’s all in your hands!
